A federal judge in Rhode Island has ruled that the Trump administration's attempt to significantly change the criteria to receive tens of millions of dollars in funding for homeless people was unlawful. The ruling maintains the status quo on Multnomah County’s $38 million in federal funding for this year, but does not prevent the administration from changing the guidelines for next year. The lawsuit was brought by several national nonprofits who accused HUD of changing the rules for receiving $75 million to build housing for homeless families and individuals. The judge's ruling upholds a previous order by the same judge and stated that the changes could affect over 1,000 formerly homeless people in the tri-county Portland area.
