The replacement of the Interstate 5 Bridge between Portland and Vancouver could cost more than $15 billion, according to officials from Washington and Oregon. This is a significant increase from the previous estimate of $6 billion. Despite securing $5.5 billion for the project, lawmakers from both Oregon and Washington are unsure where to fund it. The project is expected to be completed within two decades. The updated cost estimate comes two months after the U.S. Coast Guard decided that the future bridge will not have to include a drawbridge, which would have added roughly $500 million to the project's costs.
