Comer: ICE at airports will ‘drive Democrats crazy’

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky) commended President Trump's decision to deploy Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to airports across the country to address airport staffing shortages due to a month-long partial government shutdown. Comer warned that this will drive Democrats "crazy," but insisted that it was necessary to ensure that air travel continued. The ICE officers were sent out to help alleviate the increasing number of Transportation and Security Officers (TSOs) who are refusing to work without pay due to the shutdown. The Senate failed to pass a funding package to reopen the agency last week, with Democrats citing unfulfilled demands for changes to the administration's immigration enforcement operations.
