Stevenson Charles, one of three inmates who escaped from the DeKalb County Jail in Georgia in December, has been convicted on four federal charges related to kidnapping, conspiracy to kidnap, Hobbs Act robbery, and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Charles was among the three inmates to have disappeared from the jail. The Lyft driver was held against her will for 10 hours and was repeatedly threatened with death if she disobeyed their commands. The car was eventually found on multiple license plate readers in Florida and used to rent an Airbnb in Miramar. Charles faces a maximum life sentence on the conspiracy and kidnapping charges, up to 20 years for the Hobbs act robbery charge, and a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years for possession of firearms.
