From Apollo to Artemis: NASA’s moon program signals a shift in who gets to explore space

The name of NASA's most famous lunar program, Apollo, has been changed to Artemis, a Greek god of the sun, a symbol of light, knowledge and exploration. The move reflects a shift from a race between superpowers to a mission focused on inclusion, sustainability and long-term human presence beyond Earth. The Artemis missions aim to land the first woman and the first person of color on the lunar surface. For the first time, the story of the moon is being rewritten to include more humanity.
