An 18-year-old student from Parma Heights, Ohio, died by suicide at her high school after a disturbance at Valley Forge High School on Monday, April 20. The student was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and taken to a local hospital where she died. No one else was injured and police determined there was no ongoing threat to students or staff. The district's superintendent, Scott Hunt, acknowledged concerns about school safety and said the district will review all safety and security protocols to identify any areas for strengthening. Matthew Myers, a father of three children who attend Parma City public schools, has created a petition calling for metal detectors in all district schools.
