Alaska Senate Republicans voted down a war powers resolution to halt President Donald Trump's war against Iran, with both Alaska Republican senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan voting against it. The resolution, written by Virginia Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, would have required congressional approval before any further attacks and would have allowed lawmakers to assert their authority over the conflict. The vote was largely split on party lines, with Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky voting in favor and Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania voting against. Murkowski argued that the resolution's requirement to remove troops from hostilities would leave "no room for operations that have already reached an even partially successful conclusion to degrade Iran's nuclear capabilities". New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, the Democratic leader, demanded that Congress be briefed on the administration's plans.
