On Tuesday, Xcel reported that about 200 gallons of oil had been seeping from the cooling equipment at its plant in Monticello, Minnesota. The incident occurred after a motor that failed at the plant allowed oil to mix with water and make its way to a discharge canal connected to the Mississippi River. While Xcel initially reported the leak, it later discovered that a small amount of mineral oil was found near the river. The company is currently working with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to clean up the remaining oil.
