The multi-billion dollar project includes a hospital, a new music venue, and a soccer stadium. The hospital is expected to open by the end of 2029 and will become the third Kaiser hospital in the greater Sacramento region. City Councilmember Phil Pluckebaum, who chairs the Railyards Public Financing Authority, credits former Mayor Darrell Steinberg with bringing together the project under a financing tool known as an Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District. Pluckeybaum also addressed the separate I Street Bridge project, which he calls essential for connecting West Sacramento and Yolo County residents to the new hospital. The stadium, which will seat 20,000 for soccer and expand to 27,000, is expected for its first games in 2028.
