The cemetery plans to screen "The Goonies" in an attempt to bring the community together and encourage visitors to maintain a quiet, respectful demeanor. However, some people whose loved ones are laid to rest there argue this contradicts the cemetery's rules. Martha Cunningham buried her husband Ronald at the Evergest Mortuary & Cemetery in November 2023. Cunningham felt blindsided upon learning of the upcoming movie night. The Evergreen responded to the concerns in a statement sent to 13 News.
