New Mexico tourism leaders rally to protect travel rewards

A new alliance between the nation's tourism leaders and four New Mexico organizations has emerged to protect travel rewards. The coalition aims to amplify the role of tourism as an economic engine, connect the industry with policymakers and protect the industry from harmful legislation. The Tourism Economy Alliance now has 33 members from 10 states, including the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, Albuquerque International Sunport, New Mexico Chambers of Commerce and the New Mexico Brewers Guild. The bill's proponents argue it aims to increase competition in the credit card market and eliminate the Visa-Mastercard duopoly. However, the alliance warns that the bill could increase costs for credit card companies, forcing them to reduce their points programs.
