Pope Leo has criticised leaders who spend billions on wars, stating that the world is being ravaged by a handful of tyrants who manipulate "the very name of God" for their own gain. This statement comes after a spat with US President Donald Trump, who had threatened to kill a whole civilisation if Iran did not comply with US demands to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz. The Pope's comments were made during a tour of Cameroon, where he condemned an "an endless cycle of destabilisation and death" that has been caused by insurgency.
