KY lawmakers increase money for kinship care in final budget

The Kentucky General Assembly has passed a two-year state budget that includes a $6 million appropriation for Senate Bill 151, an increase from the $5 million annual appropriation in earlier versions of the budget. The law, which was not funded at the time of passage, provides financial relief to families raising children who otherwise would be in state care. The funding issue has been resolved, with the House initially providing no funding for the law. The budget is now headed to Gov. Andy Beshear, who can make line-item vetoes on the budget bill.
