Second US appeals court upholds Trump's immigration detention policy

A U.S. appeals court has upheld the Trump administration's policy of mandatory detention for individuals arrested during its immigration crackdown without the possibility of being released on bond. The decision will affect cases in Minnesota and six other states. Over 400 lawsuits were filed in Minnesota in January alleging wrongly detained individuals during "Operation Metro Surge." The Department of Homeland Security had previously interpreted immigration law to apply to non-citizens already living in the US, not just those arriving at the border. The majority of the 8th Circuit's judges, both Republican presidents, argued that the administration's interpretation of the law was correct.
