The proposed 2026-2027 budget for the Montclair school is $179.8 million, which would increase the tax levy by 3.92 percent, above the 2 percent state cap due to the partial use of a health insurance waiver. Staff cuts are also on the table, including 23 middle school teachers, four high school teachers and five elementary school teachers. The proposal also includes the elimination of freshman sports and a multi-year phase-out of German language studies at Montclair High School.
