The Florida Supreme Court's ruling on the 2022 challenge may not be the first time the court has considered this. The case involved a Black-majority district held by former congressman Al Lawson that the DeSantis map eliminated. The plaintiffs' lawyers focused on a portion of the constitutional amendment that prohibits weakening districts for racial minorities and largely ignores the prohibition against drawing a partisan map.
