Elisabeth Moss, the actress known for her portrayal of The Handmaid's Tale and The Handmaiden, has developed an adaptation of Araminta Hall's novel Imperfect Women since 2019. The series follows three longtime friends whose lives are disrupted when one of them is murdered and secrets are uncovered. Moss is also executive producer and star of the series, bringing in Kerry Washington and Kate Mara to play the roles. The project had faced delays due to the pandemic and Hollywood strikes, but Moss was looking for a change of direction and wanted to work with other actresses she was a fan of. The team also made some changes between the book and screen, including setting the story in L.A. and tweaking how it all ends.
