A controversial proposal by the Idaho Senate has passed, House Bill 752, which would criminalize those using public bathrooms that don't match their biological sex. The bill would extend these restrictions to all government and public buildings. It would make it illegal for any individual to "knowingly or willfully" enter a bathroom or locker room that does not align with the biological sex, with a first-time violation classified as a misdemeanor and a second offense as a felony. The ACLU of Idaho has called on Governor Brad Little to veto the bill, stating it's an "unacceptable and discriminatory misuse of the criminal justice system". The bill's sponsor, Senator Ben Toews, R-Pocatello, argues the bill is meant to protect women and girls and keep biological men out of areas designed for women.
