The US Supreme Court has cleared the way for dismissal of the case against Steve Bannon, former advisor to President Donald Trump, regarding fraud charges related to a fundraising effort to build a border wall. The decision comes after the Trump Justice Department argued that dismissal of Bannon's case was in the interests of justice. Bannon was convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress for failing to provide documents or testimony to a Democratic-led House of Representatives committee investigating the Capitol attack. The case was returned to the lower court for further consideration. After his conviction was upheld in 2024, Bannon served a four-month sentence at a federal facility in Danbury, Connecticut.
