Former Springfield Mayor calls for clemency in 1981 murder case

Former Springfield Mayor Michael Albano is calling for clemency in the case of James Rodwell, who has been imprisoned for 45 years on a first-degree murder conviction. Rodwell was convicted based on the testimony of two witnesses and no physical evidence. Albano believes Rodwell is innocent. The Advisory Board of Pardons granted Rodwell a clemence hearing almost a year ago but has not scheduled it. Despite this, Albano has previously written to the board on Rodwell's behalf. He compared Rodwell’s case to other wrongful convictions he’d seen, including those of Bobby Joe Leaster, Joseph Salvati, and Louis Greco.
