Firefighters from Branford, New Hampshire, rescued three people trapped in an elevator after a machine room-less, or MRL, elevator stalled between the first and second floors with three uninjured people inside. Despite efforts to return the elevator to service, an elevator technician was called to the building and despite efforts to reset or move the elevator, it could not be moved. Crews developed a plan to remove the occupants from the elevator using a folding ladder, but one occupant had a medical condition preventing them from climbing the ladder. Additional resources were requested, including mutual aid from the Guilford Fire Department, and a rope rescue operation was conducted. The remaining occupants were able to safely remove from the elevators without injury.
