Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, a man who was shot in the face by federal immigration officers in Stanislaus County, California, faces a long recovery following three surgeries. His lawyer, Patrick Kolasinski, stated that he may soon be able to leave the ICU following the shooting. Initially, ICE had claimed Mendoaza Hernandez was a Los Angeles-area gang member wanted for questioning in connection with a murder in El Salvador, but Kolasinks said the country informed him that he was acquitted of this murder in 2019. The Department of Justice also stated that the agency is not holding MendoZA Hernandez as a suspect at this point. Kolaszynski criticized ICE's handling of the incident, stating that its training methods and protocol put everyone, including the agents themselves, in danger.
