Archaeologists have discovered an intact bronze cannonball used at the Alamo, which dates back to the 1836 battle that killed Davy Crockett. The discovery was made a day before the 190th anniversary of the conflict between Mexican troops and white settlers in Texas. The Alamo's director of archaeology, Michael Lindley, announced the find on an episode of the Almo's podcast, "Smokey". The Almo was a Spanish mission and fortress built in 1718 and was defended by a group of about 180 Texan rebels. The Mexican army launched an assault on the Alamon on March 6, 1836, killing all its defenders. In addition to the intact ball, four cannonball fragments were recovered outside the church.
