Half of US adults struggle to afford health care costs, poll reveals

New polling by KFF has revealed that about half of US adults struggle to afford health care costs, according to the poll. The study also revealed that 24% of adults with health care debt experienced housing instability the following year, compared to only 6% with no medical debt. Experts attribute the increasing burden of medical debt to the rising cost of medical services and medicine, inadequate health insurance and high-deductible plans. Money Management International (MMI), a national nonprofit that helps people out of debt, is working with Victoria Gonzales to tackle her credit card debt. Nearly one in five Hoosiers has some form of medical debts in collections.
