The National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty found that over 50 percent of respondents were denied crucial benefits such as Social Security income and food stamps due to lack of identification. Philanthropist Tiger Todd, founder of Hero School, hosts weekend mini academies for homeless people living on the streets and offers help obtaining identification tied to participation in his program. His efforts also include helping people obtain foundational documents needed to secure an ID.
