Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield has urged the Supreme Court to reject an executive order by President Donald Trump that restricts automatic citizenship for children born on U.S. soil. The case, Trump v. Barbara, involves whether a president can alter the definition of citizenship through executive action. Rayfield argued that the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.N. Constitution has been interpreted as granting birthright citizenship to those born in the United States for over 150 years. He also stated that the president does not get to rewrite the Constitution by executive order. The Supreme Court will hear the appeal of a lower-court ruling from New Hampshire regarding the citizenship restrictions.
