Tenet Healthcare wins legal victory over ‘unfair and deceptive’ hospital safety grades

Tenet Healthcare Corporation, a major national for-profit healthcare company, has won a legal victory over The Leapfrog Group's influential hospital safety grades. The case involved poor grades issued to five South Florida hospitals owned by Tenet, a Dallas-based for-profits company. The hospitals had declined to participate in information gathering requests from The Leap Frog Group, claiming they were unfairly punished for not cooperating. A U.S. District Judge Donald Middlebrooks ruled that Leapfrog's methodology was unscientific and violated Florida law. Middlebrook's injunction did not include monetary damages. After the ruling, Leapfrog’s leadership issued a scathing rebuke, warning that the judge’�s order could threaten the organization’S entire American consumer ratings system.
