Threads is launching a redesigned web interface and adding direct messages to desktop for the first time, adding a cleaner single-feed layout and shortcuts to saved posts and insights. The changes are part of a shift from growth to retention as the company surpasses 450 million monthly active users and begins scaling its global advertising business. The redesign includes direct messages, a navigation sidebar, and quicker access to features previously hidden in the mobile-first layout. The web version will also bring one-on-one chats, group conversations of up to 50 people, emoji reactions, and the ability to send photos, GIFs, and stickers. The launch of these changes comes as Threads continues to grow faster than any social platform in history and surpasses any other. The company is set to roll out ads globally in late 2025 and is projected to generate revenue of $8 billion by the end of 2025.
