Airline travelers say they want TSA officers to be paid salaries
Published on March 26, 2026.
Air travelers are calling for the salaries of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees to be paid. This comes after the Department of Homeland Security partially shut down due to Democrats' refusal to approve funding for the agency and demands changes in how federal agents enforce immigration laws. Some passengers argue that the top priority should be paying workers and keeping air travel safe. Since the shutdown began, at least 376 TSA officers have quit, adding to the agency's high turnover and low morale. President Donald Trump has threatened to order federal immigration officers to help with airport security starting March 23, unless Democrats agree to fund the department. About 50,000 TSA workers are still working without pay during the shutdown.
