Tate's high school teammate, Nolan Baudo, said he could sense something different about him from the start. Tate grew up in a violent neighborhood in Chicago and was referred to as "Mister" by his family as a child. He led Marist High School to the state semifinals of the football season and led the team to 444 yards and five touchdowns.
