Judges at the Milwaukee County Courthouse are calling for an immediate replacement for the nearly 100-year-old safety building at the courthouse due to extreme heat, which has disrupted operations and threatens the legal process. Courtrooms, jury rooms, and holding cells in the 80s and 90s experienced temperatures reaching 90 degrees, with ceiling fans providing little relief. County leaders have proposed tearing down and replacing the safety building, a project estimated to cost nearly $900 million, and are seeking state assistance to reduce the financial burden on taxpayers. Chief Judge Carl Ashley and Judge Laura Crivello expressed concern about the impact on jurors and the need for major improvements to the courthouse.
