A Massachusetts fishing crew has found a rare split-colored lobster, a rare find that is usually caused by a genetic defect caused when fertilized, unlaid eggs contact each other. The lobster was spotted by the fishing vessel the Timothy Michael and shared on Facebook by its parent company, Wellfleet Shellfish. The company donated the creature to the Woods Hole Science Aquarium in southeastern Massachusetts, where its unique coloration will be studied. The creature will then be displayed on display at the Aquarium after a major renovation in 2027.
