Jon Dee Graham, a songwriter who pioneered Austin punk and fused hard rock and country, has died at 67. His family did not provide a cause of death, but Graham had been hospitalized multiple times due to health issues in recent years. He first changed local music with the Austin Skunks, a band representing the city's burgeoning punk scene, and later played on bills with the Ramones, the Police, Gang of Four, John Cale. Graham's solo debut, Escape From Monster Island, was released in 1997 and earned him comparisons to Tom Waits. His son William, who was diagnosed with rare bone disease at age 6, joined the band on guitar in 1979. Despite his health issues, William has since launched his own music career.
