The allegations of sexual assault against California Democrat Congressman Swalwell in the race to replace outgoing Gov. Gavin Newsom have significantly impacted the race for governor. His most prominent supporters, including U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff and powerful labor unions, have called for his resignation from the race and for his departure. Several members of Swalway's campaign abruptly resigned following the allegations. The allegations, which surfaced at a critical stage of the campaign, could potentially impact the campaign less than a month before voters receive mail ballots for the June 2 election. The woman alleges that Swalwe sent explicit photos of his genitals and other intimate messages to her new boss shortly after she began working at his Castro Valley office in 2019 and asked her to send nude photos back. She claims that she was 21 and he was 38 when the incident occurred. The accusations were made public, but have not been substantiated by the woman’s attorney, Anastasia Dabaie, who insists that her statements are accurate and that the credibility of the woman's claims are "100% accurate".
