Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin's confirmation hearing for the position of Secretary of Homeland Security was grilled by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, where he defended the policies of President Donald Trump, calling him a friend and a friend. Mullin was also questioned by Chairman Rand Paul for questioning Paul's loyalty to the Republican Party, whom Mullin has previously called a "feline snake" for breaking with Trump on key issues. The White House has called Mullin "extraordinarily qualified" for the role, following the ouster of Kristi Noem. During the hearing, Mullin defended the killing of Renee Good by DHS agents in Minneapolis, calling it "justifiable" and expressing his desire to avoid national headlines. He also stressed the need for DHS funding and said he would cooperate with an inspector general probe into Noem's tenure as DHS secretary.
