Personal Trainer Toby King has warned that exercise mistakes that can lead to chronic tightness and eventually, sexual dysfunction. These problems can be traced back to the pelvic floor muscles, which are crucial to maintaining core stability and maintaining organs in place. These muscles can become too tight or overloaded, restricting blood flow and compress nerves essential for healthy sexual function. These issues can lead for example to pelvic pain during sex, pain during masturbation and ejaculation, bladder issues and daily discomfort. Heavy exercise such as squats, deadlifts, ab rolling, hanging leg raises and even planking can also cause tension. King suggests that corrective exercises should be performed using deep, diaphragmatic breathing to reduce tension. He also recommends that cyclists and triathletes should avoid long sessions on a poorly set-up saddle, which can put pressure on nerves and muscle tissue surrounding the area.
