DHS warns it will run out of money to pay airport security workers in coming weeks

US airports could face long security lines as early as May due to a partial government shutdown, according to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. This follows President Donald Trump's directive to use emergency funds to pay unpaid Transportation Security Administration workers who had been without paychecks for six weeks. Mullin stated that the payroll at DHS is just over $1.6 billion per two weeks and after the next paycheck, there is no more money available. The weeks-long standoff in Congress resulted in the longest airport security line in the TSA's history.
