David Carrick, one of the UK's most prolific sex offenders, was driven home by a Metropolitan Police officer after his arrest following a rape arrest. The officer, who was then a detective constable within the Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS), stated he was concerned that a welfare officer was not present at the time and that he wanted to get Carrick home and return later. The tribunal also heard that after discussing the case with Hertfordshire Constabulary, they advised him that without corroborating evidence, the allegation would likely be "Nished" without further action.
