Three professors from Emory University in Atlanta have filed a lawsuit against their university over their arrests during a 2024 campus protest over the Israel-Hamas war. They claim that the university broke its own free speech policies when it called in police and state troopers to halt the protest, resulting in 28 arrests. The lawsuit demands that Emory repay the three money they spent defending themselves against misdemeanor charges later dismissed, along with punitive damages. The professors, who all remain tenured faculty members, claim that after their arrests, they were targeted by threats and harassment. Laura Diamond, a spokesperson for Emory, dismissed the lawsuit, stating that it is without merit.
