Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has criticized President Trump for signing an executive order that restricts mail-in voting in federal elections and creates a national list of verified eligible voters. The executive order, titled “Ensuring Citizenship and Integrity in Federal Elections,’t requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to create a list of eligible voters in each state, and prohibits the U.S. Postal Service from sending absentee and mail-ins ballots to those not on each state’s approved list. The order also includes new uniform standards for the Post Office and states to follow when administering absentee and mailed out ballots, including mailing out ballots in envelopes marked as “Official Election Mail” that includes designated markings provided by USPS and a unique Intelligent Mail barcode that facilitates tracking. The right to vote in Federal elections is reserved exclusively for citizens of the United States under the Constitution and Federal law. The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against Massachusetts Secretary of State Bill Galvin and 22 other states over its refusal to provide the federal government with private voter data and information.
