Annette Jackson, a Michigan woman, has shared her story of being dismissed with Lyme disease symptoms at the hospital after multiple hospital visits. She initially found a bite on her body after a day at the park and repeated hospital visits failed to find a diagnosis. Eventually, after years of symptoms, her doctor diagnosed her with the disease. Jackson had to pay out of pocket for her treatment and is working with local officials to secure better insurance coverage for Lyme disease. While Lyme disease is common in the Midwest, Northeast and Northwest, case counts in Michigan have increased by 168% since 2020.
