The Goldman Environmental Prize, the world's top environmental award, has been awarded to six grassroots environmental activists from around the world for their efforts to combat climate change and save biodiversity. The first time since the award was created in 1989, all recipients are women. The winners, who are chosen from each of the world’s six primary regions, each receive $200,000 in prize money. Among the winners were Iroro Tanshi from Nigeria, Borim Kim from South Korea, Sarah Finch from the UK, and Alannah Acaq Hurley from the United States. The other five recipients have focused their efforts on fighting fossil fuels, which are causing global climate change.
