The Texas Senate and House General Investigating Committees on the July 2025 flooding events met for the first time, touring Camp Mystic in Hunt. 28 people died at Camp Mystic during the flood, including 25 campers, two counselors and Camp Mystic owner Dick Eastland. In response to the flooding, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Texas Speaker of the House Dustin Burrows created Select Committees on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding. The committee will be tasked with investigating contributing factors, allocation of resources, effectiveness of preparedness and coordination between local, state and federal entities. Hill Country natives have argued that the focus should be on Kerr County, not just one incident.
