How recycling helps with waterway conservation

Recycling is a vital practice in preventing items from ending up in our waterways, creeks, streams, rivers, and even the ocean. Jim Fedders, Associate Director of the Piney Creek Watershed Association, said recycling everything you can can prevent items from being transported out of the environment causing health problems and environmental issues. The Watershed association has installed "Trash Trouts" in several waterways around the city to collect litter that floats down the waterways. Sherrie Hunter, Director of Education for the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority, said that recycling aluminum reduces the need for mining bauxite and reduces potential mine waste.
