Sussie Ramirez, aka DJ Suxxy Puxxy, and Brian Almaraz, co-owner of Coconut Club and Community Garden, have opened their new joint venture, Coquito, on 1407 E. Seventh. Coquita, a coffee shop and restaurant, has become a popular hangout in the area, adding to existing third spaces Cenote and Granny’s Tacos on the same block. The restaurant's casual food menu is heavily Latin American, with items such as torta del chavo and grilled cheese sandwiches. Ramirez credits her success to the growing nightlife scene in Austin, which she feels is more diverse than other parts of Texas. Coqito aims to be a community-focused gathering spot, a seed-building community, and is named after the original name of the late Mexican actor Chespirito.
