Astronomic royal and science communicator Martin Rees and astrophysicist Donald Goldsmith have criticised human space exploration as too expensive and dangerous. They argue that advances in AI, robotics, and electronics will allow Earth to explore and commercially exploit other worlds such as the moon and Mars with machines. The authors argue that the technology of AI and robotics will actually enhance human capacity to perform useful tasks faster and more efficiently. They suggest that while robots may replace humans with menial tasks, humans will still have a role in directing these new armies of robot workers. They also suggest that a lunar base on the moon could be a hub for science and commerce, with astronauts operating there, would be staffed by robots. The author argues that AI's ability to handle repetitive tasks will complement human creativity and intelligence to solve problems faster than machines.
