Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested a 36-year-old former executive of Tokyo-based payment processing company, Tenmei, along with eight others for allegedly facilitating illegal online gambling. The suspects are accused of facilitating 44 instances of illegal gambling for six customers between January and April 2025. The company allegedly acted as a financial middleman for overseas online casinos, earning up to 10 billion yen in commissions. The operation had been running since around 2019, funneling roughly 340 billion yen to overseas casino operators while skimming a cut of 1 to 3 percent as their reward.
