Philly leaders react to White House Correspondents’ dinner shooting

The White House Correspondents’ Association dinner was interrupted by gunfire at the end of the event, which ended with a gunman attempting to break through a security checkpoint with a shotgun, handgun and knives. The suspect, identified as Cole Allen, a 31-year-old California man, was tackled and taken into custody and is charged with assault of a federal officer using a dangerous weapon. About 2,300 journalists, politicians, and other public figures attended the annual event in Washington, D.C., which was held to celebrate press freedom and freedom of speech. Philadelphia officials have urged the country to unite against political violence, particularly in the wake of the incident.
