The first day of astronomical spring has been marked by high temperatures across East Texas, with many East Texans preparing for higher temperatures this spring. Firefighters are monitoring their work and hydration levels, with Assistant Fire Chief Troy Pritchard suggesting that they may give a quicker rest break than they would normally do due to cooler conditions. Other crops that grow in the spring are particularly at risk due to high temperatures. Brantly Efurd of Efoud Orchards in Pittsburg has already prepared his fields for the worst weather, using mulch paper to cover pipes that water plants and retain moisture. The coming week is expected to be hotter, increasing the chances of fires across dry land.
