The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-0 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals in Raleigh, North Carolina. Frederik Andersen made 22 saves and Logan Stankoven scored a goal and an assist. Taylor Hall also scored and Jackson Blake was credited with two assists. This was the first time the Senators had faced the Hurricanes in the postseason. Despite a slow start, the Hurricanes overcame it and managed to maintain their 8-5 edge in shots. This marked Andersen's sixth career playoff shutout.
